Brotato Build Guide: How to Plan a Build That Wins

A strong Brotato build focuses on one weapon type, the one or two damage stats that weapon scales with, and enough Max HP, regeneration and dodge or armor to survive. Fill your six slots with the same weapon early, then buy items that boost those exact stats instead of spreading materials everywhere.

Start from your character

Every build begins with the character, because each one changes stats, weapon options or shop behavior. A melee bonus character wants melee weapons, a ranged character wants guns, and an Engineering character wants turrets. Fighting your character's bonuses wastes the strongest part of the run.

Characters also carry tags that make certain items appear more often in the shop. Lucky, for example, sees more luck items. Reading your character's description before wave one tells you which stats the run is built around.

Commit to one weapon type

Dot Esports and several creators give the same advice: focus on one weapon type and a couple of stats. The shop offers weapons based on what you already own, so holding the same weapon raises the chance of seeing it again. That lets you combine duplicates into tier III and tier IV versions much sooner.

A shop guide by Jawless Paul recommends buying only weapons in the first few shops until all six slots are filled. The first two shops always offer two weapons, and waves three to five guarantee at least one weapon per roll. After the slots are full, switch to buying items.

Stack the right damage stat

Weapons scale with specific stats such as Melee Damage, Ranged Damage, Elemental Damage or Engineering. Check the scaling line on your weapon and buy that stat over generic ones. Percent Damage and Attack Speed help almost every build.

Some weapons break the obvious pattern. The Shuriken is a ranged weapon that scales with melee damage, and the Sickle scales with Harvesting. Knowing these lets you mix in a support weapon without changing your main stat plan.

Defense keeps the build alive

Nearly every guide repeats that most characters need Max HP and some regeneration. Dodge, armor, life steal and consumable healing are the other main layers. One Danger 5 build video stresses dodge and HP consumables in almost every build it recommends.

Speed and range are easy to underrate. Speed helps you escape crowds in late waves, and range lets melee builds hit enemies before they touch you. Do not trade them away casually for small damage gains.

Proven build examples

A 2026 creator guide ranks five easy Danger 5 builds. Knight with the Jousting Lance comes first, because Knight's damage scales with armor. Loud with Shredders and explosions, Bull with explosion damage, Doctor with Scissors and life steal, and Entrepreneur with Sickles and Harvesting complete the list.

A community-voted list adds Well Rounded with SMGs and shotguns, Lucky with slingshots and crit, and a Spear build fed by Bait. Slingshot builds also appear in written guides because their bullets bounce between enemies. See Brotato best build for how each one plays.

  • Knight + Jousting Lance: scales with armor, keep moving to keep damage up.
  • Bull + explosion damage: run through waves and let damage explode around you.
  • Doctor + Scissors: melee damage and life steal with some dodge.
  • Well Rounded + SMG: a flexible, steady build that suits Endless.

Economy builds

Some builds are designed around earning more materials. Entrepreneur with Sickles scales with Harvesting, so economy items also raise damage. The creator who ranked it notes its early game is weak but its late game is very strong.

Harvesting items such as Fertilizer, Tractor and Crown are named in that guide. Buying all four shop items for a free reroll is a key trick for this style. Economy builds reward patience in the first waves.

Explosive builds

Bull and Loud are the two explosion characters most often recommended. Bull runs through waves and lets explosion damage hit enemies around it. Loud stacks Shredders and explosion damage to clear huge crowds.

Both builds value dodge and healing, because they spend time close to enemies. Items that add piercing or bounce make explosive weapons even stronger. Rocket launchers fit if the shop offers them.

Using Bait and risk items

Bait spawns more enemies in the next wave but permanently boosts damage and Harvesting. A community-voted Spear build hoards Bait to snowball faster. Fisherman sees a Bait in every shop for one material.

The risk is real, because too much Bait can overwhelm you on the next wave. Add Bait gradually as your build gets stronger. Stop buying it if you are struggling to clear waves.

Ranged builds for beginners

Ranged weapons are often the easiest way to learn building. They let you keep distance while your weapons fire automatically. An experienced creator recommends them for players who do not yet know enemy patterns.

SMG builds are the most common example. They scale with every attack speed item and support life steal. A community-voted Well Rounded SMG build is praised for balance and long Endless runs.

Adjust as the run goes

Brotato is a roguelike, so no planned build is guaranteed. Lock key items you cannot afford yet and reroll when the shop offers nothing for your plan. Buying out all four items gives a free reroll, which helps economy builds.

After each wave, compare how much damage each weapon dealt and replace weak ones. If enemies are reaching you, buy defense before more damage. Our Brotato shop page explains how tiers unlock as waves go on.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many weapons should a Brotato build use?

Most characters hold six weapons, and guides recommend filling all six with the same weapon or class early.

What stats matter most in Brotato?

The damage stat your weapons scale with, plus Max HP and regeneration. Attack speed, dodge, armor and speed support most builds.

Do weapon classes matter?

Yes. Holding several weapons of one class grants a set bonus, so class-focused builds are stronger.

What is the easiest build in Brotato?

A 2026 guide ranks Knight with the Jousting Lance as the easiest build for a first Danger 5 win.

Should I mix melee and ranged weapons?

Most guides recommend focusing on one weapon type and its stat. Mixing spreads your upgrades too thin.
