Brotato Tier List: Characters Ranked for Danger 5 and Nightmare

Across major Brotato tier lists, the characters most often placed in S tier are Well Rounded, Ranger, Brawler, One-Armed, Ghost and Knight. For Nightmare, a detailed 2026 ranking puts Well Rounded, Crazy and Mage in S tier and Ranger in A tier. Knight is the easiest pick for a first Danger 5 win.

How we built this tier list

We did not invent rankings. This page combines tier lists from Common Sense Gamer, TheGamer, Choost Games and a detailed 2026 Nightmare video by Cephalopocalypse. Only placements that appear across sources are listed as consensus.

Where sources disagree, we say so. Rankings also change with patches, so check dates. All sources are linked at the bottom of the page.

Consensus S tier

Well Rounded, Ranger, Brawler, One-Armed, Ghost and Knight appear in the top tier across several lists. These characters have strong bonuses that work with many weapons. They are reliable picks for both learning and winning.

Loud and Crazy also rank high on some lists. Crazy reaches S tier in the Nightmare ranking for its powerful bonuses. Loud is a top explosion character in a 2026 Danger 5 guide.

  • S tier (consensus): Well Rounded, Ranger, Brawler, One-Armed, Ghost, Knight
  • Often high: Loud, Crazy
  • Easiest Danger 5 route: Knight + Jousting Lance

Nightmare tier list

Cephalopocalypse ranked every character after completing Nightmare guides for each one on both maps. The only criterion is how easy each character makes it to win Nightmare. The video assumes optimal weapons and an experienced player.

Well Rounded, Crazy and Mage are in S tier. Mage earns it because the Icicle weapon is very strong with no downside. Ranger drops to A tier because it can die quickly to environmental projectiles despite its strong ranged bonuses.

Why ranged characters rise on Nightmare

The Nightmare tier list explains that ranged weapons are generally much easier than melee on Nightmare. Enemies have more health, damage and speed than on Danger 5. Staying at a distance keeps you safer while you wear them down.

Melee characters such as Brawler still work, but they need more careful play there. Demon and Bull also rank fairly high for experienced players. Read the Brotato Nightmare guide before trying it.

Easiest characters for Danger 5

A 2026 guide by Cruton ranks the five easiest Danger 5 builds. Knight with the Jousting Lance is first, followed by Loud, Bull, Doctor and Entrepreneur. Bull is described as very beginner friendly.

These match the consensus tier list closely. Knight is rated highly almost everywhere. Doctor and Bull are favorites for players who want a forgiving first win.

Where lists disagree

Bull is the clearest example of disagreement, ranked in F tier on one list and A tier on another. Ghost is S tier on most lists but much lower on one older ranking. Differences come from different criteria and different game versions.

Some lists rank characters for raw power in Endless, while others rank how easy a normal win is. Choost Games ranks all characters specifically for Danger 5 clears and includes Abyssal Terrors. Always check what a list is measuring.

Patches move characters

Brotato keeps getting balance changes. Paws & Claws added a life steal restriction for Bull and changed how the Soldier's bonus works. All Pain No Gain buffed many weapons, which changes how strong some characters feel.

Primal Dread added ten more characters on November 2, 2026, and they are still being evaluated. Expect tier lists to update over the coming months. We will refresh this page as reliable rankings appear.

Tier list by playstyle

If you like ranged play, Ranger and One-Armed are the top picks, with Mage strong on Nightmare. For melee, Brawler and Knight lead most lists. For explosions, Bull and Loud are the standouts.

For sustain, Doctor is a favorite thanks to life steal and attack speed. For economy, Entrepreneur with Sickles is a strong late-game choice. Ghost suits players who like high dodge and slingshot builds.

Upcoming changes to watch

Evil Empire continues to update Brotato with balance changes and new content. Each patch can move characters up or down. The Primal Dread DLC is the latest addition to the roster.

We update this page when reliable sources publish new rankings. Check the date at the top of the page. Combine any list with your own experience.

Best characters to start Nightmare

The Nightmare tier list describes S tier characters as the best place to earn your first few Nightmare wins. Well Rounded, Crazy and Mage fit that role. Each one has strong bonuses and few downsides.

A-tier characters such as Ranger usually have one strong strategy but are easier to lose with. They need more careful movement or harder decisions. Try them after your first S-tier wins.

How to use this tier list

If you are new, start with Well Rounded, then try Knight or Bull for your first Danger 5 attempt. If you are chasing Nightmare, focus on ranged characters and the S tier picks above. Rotate characters, since Nightmare unlocks after Danger 5 wins on different characters.

A low tier never means unplayable. Every character can win with the right build and some luck. See best Brotato character and Brotato best build for practical picks.
