Brotato Patch Notes: Update 1.2 and Hotfix 1.2.0.1

The latest official Steam patch found in our November 5, 2026 review is 1.2.0.1, following the November 2 launch of Update 1.2. The free update adds Item Set and changes Nightmare, characters and shop behavior. The hotfix addresses Primal Dread balance, co-op crashes and shop display issues.

Last updated: November 5, 2026

Version 1.2.0.1: first post-launch hotfix

Published November 3 on Steam, this patch raises the base Mutagen drop chance from 2% to 3%. Mutation can no longer copy Survivor’s effect that removes weapons from the shop. Baby T. rex speed is capped at 95% of the target player’s maximum speed.

The Survivor co-op crash when players select crate rewards at the same time is fixed. Hourglass purchases now update the next-wave display correctly, and several co-op shop layout issues are corrected. These are specific fixes, not a promise that all mod combinations are compatible.

Version 1.2: Item Set is a free feature

Item Set lets you enable or disable groups of content from expansions and free updates. You can reach it from character selection. For example, turning off Paws & Claws removes that update’s content if you want a run without Pets.

This changes how to follow a build guide: check that the content pack supplying a recommended item is enabled. Missing content may be a settings issue rather than an unlock bug. The menu does not grant ownership of paid DLC.

Nightmare balance: what returning players should know

The developers adjusted Crash Zone difficulty spikes and reduced projectile counts for Horned Fly, Bloated Pufferfish and Horned Spitter. Several other enemies lost health or movement speed.

These changes are a reason to revisit a difficult run, but they do not establish a new universal character ranking. Our Nightmare guide explains the unlock and mode; judge older videos against the version they were recorded on.

Character buffs in Update 1.2

Eight characters received changes in the official notes. The examples below matter when comparing an old build guide with the current character-selection screen.

  • Farmer now begins with a Garden; Beastmaster starts with an extra Rat.
  • Hiker gains 5 materials every 8 steps instead of 10 and loses the movement-speed penalty.
  • Dwarf gains Engineering every 5 kills instead of 6.
  • One Armed’s weapon counts as three extra weapons of its classes for set bonuses.
  • Diver’s enemy-health modifier drops from 250% to 200%; Fisherman’s material-drop penalty changes from -50% to -40%.
  • Druid’s fruit-spawn chance rises from 3 to 4 in the official notes.

Shop and reload changes affect builds

The base chance to offer an owned weapon increases from 20% to 23%, with the early-wave bonus rising from 5% to 7%. The notes also add modifiers based on the number of different weapons held. These figures describe parts of the selection system, not a guarantee that every shop contains your target weapon.

Revolver, Combat Shotgun, Chain Gun, Chainsaw and Grenade Launcher now continue to reduce their long reload with Attack Speed after the normal cooldown reaches its minimum. Recheck those weapons before dismissing Attack Speed based on an older guide.

For buying priorities, see Brotato best builds and the shop guide. Keep enough materials for useful upgrades instead of rerolling indefinitely for one perfect item.

If the update breaks a modded run

The developer asks players to deactivate outdated mods after updating. Check the game version, disable mods and try reproducing the issue before reporting it. Record your character, map, mode and whether co-op was active so a report can be reproduced.

The mods guide covers Workshop basics. The official announcements linked below contain the full patch details; this page is an editorial summary, not a verbatim changelog.
