Brotato One Armed Build: Picking and Scaling One Weapon

One Armed can only equip one weapon, but gets a large Attack Speed bonus and doubled Damage modifications. Pick a weapon that handles crowds, such as Shredder, Double Barrel Shotgun or Lightning Shiv, then upgrade it every time you can. Since Update 1.2, that weapon also counts as three extra weapons of its classes for set bonuses.

How One Armed works

The community wiki lists +200% Attack Speed, Damage modifications increased by 100%, and a one-weapon limit. It unlocks after winning a run in Danger 0, and winning with One Armed unlocks the Focus item.

Update 1.2 adds that One Armed's weapon counts as three extra weapons of its classes for set bonuses. Older guides were written without that change, so recheck class bonuses before following an old video. Our patch notes summary lists the other 1.2 character changes.

The best weapon to commit to

One Armed has one of the widest starting weapon pools in the game, with 19 options. Because you only get one slot, the wiki recommends weapons that deal with groups of enemies. Shredder, Double Barrel Shotgun and Lightning Shiv are its highlighted picks.

A single-target weapon can still kill bosses, but it struggles when late waves fill the screen. If you are unsure, start with a crowd-clearing weapon and spend early materials on upgrading it rather than buying replacements.

Items that suit One Armed

  • Focus: +30% damage with an attack speed loss per different weapon carried, which barely matters when you carry only one.
  • Silver Bullet: its effect is doubled for One Armed, giving 50% more damage against Elites and Bosses.
  • Improved Tools: extra attack speed that pairs well with the starting bonus.
  • Defensive items: with one weapon you cannot rely on a second weapon for safety, so keep Max HP and regeneration in step with damage.

One Armed on Danger 5 and Nightmare

Tier lists often rank One Armed near the top for ranged play; see our tier list. On higher difficulties the main risk is falling behind on upgrades: plan to reach tier IV on your weapon before the late waves and avoid rerolling away materials you need for it.

For Nightmare-specific threats such as projectile events, read the Nightmare guide before your run.
